Organ improvisations

The British organist, pianist, and conductor Wayne Marshall has swiftly risen through the ranks of world-wide fame on the basis of his technical and interpretative ability, which have made him one of the main exponents of 20th century American music.  He has performed with famous European and American orchestras and has played the organ in some of the world’s prestigious venues.

His recital starts today with Bach and runs on to Rossini and other composers of those times, until he gives us one of his own compositions. This just illustrates the exceptional span of his talents.

The 1905 Tamburini organ  in the Church of Saint Ambrogio in Stresa is one of the best around Lake Maggiore, and was restored in 2006 by Saverio Anselmo Tamburini.

Church SS. Ambrogio and Theodulo

The Church SS. Ambrogio and Theodulo, in front of the Lake Maggiore, has a Neoclassical façade adorned with two sculptures of angels playing musical instruments and was built in 1790. Inside you can find three altars: one is decorated with a precious painting by Morazzone, while the main one is surrounded by paintings of the XVII Lombard dedicated to St. Ambrose.
