Preludes and Fugues, Anthropogeography

Just a glimpse, lasting ‘an instant’ – That attention is enough to shatter it into a thousand fragments, all fraught with significance and evocative. Things happen, collide, weave together, face each other – equal and opposite but all as one body of bodies. Melancholy, or grotesque, joy, strength and vulnerability, quiet, pain, remorse – all in constant, unstoppable mutation.

Dimitri Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes and  Fugues serve as a vast source of inspiration for this choreographic project by Simona Bucci. Seven male dancers bring alive,  breathing and rendering the music – played live by the pianist Roberto Prosseda – a material, physical, evocative presence.  Simona Bucci has danced as a soloist with the Alwin Nikolais Dance Company, and is now the Coordinator of the Accademia Isola Danza at the Venice Biennale, assistant to Carolyn Carlson and Artistic Director of the Compagnia Simona Bucci.

This concert is part of the thematic area Between Classic and Neoclassic – the Russian path.
